Job Summary:
Responsible for the proper identification, collection and labeling of blood specimens.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Order all tests in the computer.
Have knowledge of laboratory tests and anticoagulants.
Obtain blood specimens by skin puncture or venipuncture using appropriate technique and maintaining integrity of specimen in relation to the test to be performed.
Perform basic EKG's when needed.
Properly identify, collect and label blood specimens.
Organize and record specimen collection.
Possess knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for all ages.
Accurately interpret physician's orders
Exhibit calm responsiveness to emergency or stressful situations.

Education & Experience:
Prefer license: State of FL phlebotomist
Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Proficiencies:
Communication by means of the spoken, written and typed word is required.
Work requires finger dexterity and eye hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.
Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department director, physicians and other members of the healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.
Special Demands: Use of personal protective equipment is required as there is a potential for exposure to biohazards or infectious agents when drawing and processing specimens.
Confidentiality: The employee has access to the entire medical record for charting and correcting laboratory results AND review of physician orders.
Tools & Equipment Used:
Computer and peripherals, standard and customized software applications and tools, and usual office equipment.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
This position works under usual office conditions. The employee is required to work at a personal computer as well as be on the phone for extended periods of time. Must be able to stand, sit, walk and occasionally climb. The incumbent must be able to work extended and flexible hours and weekends as needed. Physical demands include ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
