General Description:
Under general supervision, performs various technical and clerical duties related to assisting medical providers and patients, phlebotomy, and specimen collection.
Essential Responsibilities:

Assists nursing staff in obtaining vital signs, weight checks and general patient-comfort needs.
Assists patient in preparing for physical examinations and medical procedures.
Restocks rooms and supply areas as needed.
Transports patients and assists staff with moving patients from stretchers and wheelchairs.
Registers patients and assists with clerical duties such as answering phones, preparing charts, charge entry, assessing and verifying patient test requests and billing information.
Documents physician orders as required.
Provides patient results to physician offices, as necessary.
Assists with obtaining and understanding specimen and test information.
Responsible for collecting blood and other samples, identified and labeled in accordance with authorized technical procedures and laboratory policies.
Prepares specimens for transport to lab.
Operates, calibrates and maintains instrumentation and equipment.
Complies with all hospital and laboratory policies and procedures.
Complies with JCAHO and CAP patient safety goals.
Maintains accurate records, documents, and files as required.
May monitor physical examinations and medical procedures.
May perform complex collection procedures including sweat chlorides, urinalysis, or glucose tolerance tests.
General Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Successful completion of a recognized training program for medical assistants or an equivalent combination of education and experience which includes phlebotomy training.
Experience: None required.
Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical office, medical assistant and phlebotomy policies, procedures, techniques, and processing requirements.
Skill in performance of phlebotomy process.
Good communication skills both verbal and written.
Ability to use general office equipment including computer.
Typing/keyboarding skills sufficient to meet the requirements of the position.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to work effectively in stressful environment.
Ability to read, understand and follow written procedures.
