Design Engineer

Location: Cincinnati, OH
Plan and execute significant design and development projects. Works under minimal supervision and takes responsibility for projects of significant size and complexity. May direct one or more technicians and work as part of an interdepartmental task force.
Principle Duties (includes, but is not limited to):
Plan and execute design and development projects as assigned in accordance with company, department procedures, and business group needs.
Plan business needs with groups regarding new products and improvements.
Prepare and maintain project schedules, create project cost estimates and complete projects on time, within budget, and achieve the anticipated results.
Ensure designs are adequately supported with lab testing.
Create documentation of design, testing, and other project data in accordance with Product Engineering Department procedures.
Provide technical assistance to business group.
Create engineering test reports, engineering bulletins and assembly procedures in a timely and professional manner.
Perform engineering evaluations and implement solutions to customer application issues.
Evaluate design changes.
Maintain a program of personal and professional development as agreed upon with the product engineering manager.
Specific effort is made to increase product knowledge through activities such as literature review, shop visits, discussions with more senior personnel, and other appropriate means.
Specific effort is made to increase knowledge of codes and standards applicable to valve industry.
Awareness of competitors’ products is achieved and maintained.
At least one technical seminar is attended each calendar year as agreed upon with supervisor.
Will participate actively in the OpEx and Quality processes including project team involvement, problem solving, and recommending solutions to enhance and improve the quality of departmental and/or company-wide business activities.
Performs other duties as required.
Essential Qualifications / Experience:
Minimum 4-year degree in a Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Design field.
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Design field preferred.
Minimum 2 years of experience. Valve industry or other machining or fabrication experience a plus.
Design for Manufacturability experience preferred.
Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
DFMEA/PFMEA experience preferred.
Strong CAD experience in 2D and 3D (Pro-E is a plus)
Technically proficient, ability to learn new systems easily and daily use of Microsoft Office.
Strong written and verbal skills, able to professionally interact with suppliers, customers, and shop floor personnel
Understanding of valve codes and material specifications a plus (ex. ASTM, ANSI, API)
