Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Communications Strategist, External Relations, the
Communications Strategist, External Relations supports team members working on public affairs activities, creating and coordinating content for the Bank’s channels and platforms to keep a range of audiences informed and engaged.
The Corporate Communications department works collaboratively to engage external and employee audiences in building public understanding and transparency about the work of the Fed. We are a team made up of communications strategists, media and government relations practitioners, social media strategists, writer/editors, user experience and visual designers, multimedia specialists, content managers, product managers, and digital strategists.

Principal Accountabilities
Develop relationships with subject matter experts and collaborate with both teammates and colleagues from around the Bank to proactively identify compelling storytelling opportunities for the Boston Fed’s website(s), intranet, and social media channels.
Propose and implement creative solutions to communications challenges for range of internal and external audiences, ensuring alignment with the Bank’s strategic goals and objectives. Coordinate with cross-disciplinary Corporate Communications colleagues to achieve the most comprehensive results possible.
Leverage qualitative and quantitative data and analysis to inform communications strategies and meet business objectives.
Work with stakeholders to determine proactive communications strategy to drive media coverage of Boston Fed research, publications, and initiatives.
Contribute to Bank’s outreach and engagement strategies, designed to increase public understanding of the Bank and Federal Reserve System. Help field inquiries from government offices, external partners, and public.

Supervision
This position is not required to directly supervise others, but may be asked to provide informal guidance to more junior team members.
Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor's degree, ideally with a major in communications, public relations, journalism, or political science. (Possessing journalistic instincts, as well as a keen interest in financial services, economics, and financial matters, a plus.)
3-5 years of related job or internship experience.
Excellent organizational, communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to handle the demands of sensitive and sometimes urgent communications in a complex organization with calm, poise, and tact.
Must be detail-oriented, able to be involved in and advance a variety of tasks simultaneously, and a problem solver.
Must enjoy collaborating with colleagues and working independently.
Must have experience with Microsoft Office applications – including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams – and experience with a variety of social media channels and platforms. Experience with content management tools a plus. Experience interacting with members of the media, preferred.
