The Zvart Onanian School of Nursing at Rhode Island College offers undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The BSN, MSN and DNP programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The nursing programs partner with major health care agencies in the State and surrounding area to provide excellent nursing education. BSN graduates consistently achieve high NCLEX-RN pass rates: rates well above state and national averages. The student population is richly diverse: 42% report being minority, 12% are male and 25% are second degree candidates.
In September 2007, the School of Nursing began offering a Master of Science in Nursing program. The MSN program options include Adult/Geriatric Acute Care Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Practitioner, and Population/Public Health. MSN graduates demonstrate high certification rates (greater than 90%). A DNP program focused on advanced practice began in September 2016 and most recently, in 2022, the BSN to DNP with a specialization in Nurse Anesthesia was approved.
Members of the nursing faculty are experienced teachers who are deeply committed to fostering the intellectual and professional development of students. The nursing faculty are engaged in scholarship and serve as leaders in the community and profession. Alumni, in addition to numbering close to 5,000, are excelling in their careers as clinicians, teachers and leaders.
The endowed professor will lead the effort to build a nationally recognized Simulation and Innovation Program and contribute through their research, teaching, and service to the excellence of our academic community. Best practice will be nurtured and shared through a newly developed Innovation Hub, a virtual platform for inter-professional collaboration, designed to accelerate innovation and technology.
The endowed professorship has faculty teaching and administrative responsibilities for simulation and innovation within the undergraduate and graduate curriculums. As the Endowed Professor of the Zvart Onanian School of Nursing Simulation Program, the candidate provides leadership, management, and ongoing evaluation of all simulation learning experiences focusing on the current and emerging practice of simulation and implements robust methods of evaluation. The endowed professorship will assure relevance and excellence in Simulation Student Learning Outcomes (SSLO) based upon the guidelines and standards of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) and Society of Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).
