This recruitment will establish an Open eligible list used to fill current vacancies and may also be used to fill any future vacancies in Auditor-Controller and/or any other agencies within the County of Orange. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Under general supervision, Accounting Assistant II's perform a variety of duties and responsibilities in the receipt and processing of accounting data including recording, classifying, reviewing, and summarizing data for use at a higher level. The position maintains ledgers, journals, logs, files and other accounting records. Accounting Assistant II's calculate totals and balances accounting documents to ledgers. They may recommend and/or process penalty cancelations and refunds. In addition, they may monitor revenues, expenditures, and appropriations to ensure compliance with established requirements and verify accurate distribution of revenue and costs. The position will work with the public and various agency staff in order to complete tasks. The Accounting Assistant II's will review, process, and submit various routine requests utilizing several forms and logs to ensure completion and other duties as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES
In addition to the minimum qualifications the ideal candidate will also possess extensive knowledge and/or experience in the following core competencies
Technical Knowledge | Technical Experience
Knowledge of basic accounting principles and terminology
Software proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to interpret basic contracts/invoices and use available resources for problem solving
Interpret regulations, procedures, and contractual or other legal requirements for the purpose of determining the appropriate procedure/regulation or formula to apply
Ability to prepare a variety of accounting documents including statements, delinquency notices, purchase orders, requisitions, or monetary issuances
Ability to perform a variety of mathematical calculations; compute charges, interest, penalties, direct deposits, refunds, and other financial data
Communication Skills
Working effectively with various levels of organization, including staff, supervisors, and management
Demonstrating strong verbal and written communications skills; writing with excellent grammar skills and articulating ideas in an organized and effective manner
Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner
Listening effectively to others and shares technical knowledge with others

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
