General Description of Responsibilities: The Clinical Specialist ensures the quality of the clinical supports provided to the programs by playing an integral part in the development, processing and implementation of the Behavior Support Plans for all individuals served in accordance with the Department of Developmental Services CT and Journey Found policies and procedures. The Director of Clinical Services will evaluate and assign duties, making changes to the duties as deemed necessary. Specific responsibilities are in the areas of clinical oversight, training, evaluation, planning and development.
This position will be based out of the business office located in Manchester, CT, will require 85% travel within assigned cluster, and will require on call responsibilities.
RESPONISBILITIES:
Ensures the quality and integrity of all treatment planning to enhance the lives of individuals served as well as those who interact with them by improving socially significant behaviors.
Ensures that individuals served are provided with a therapeutic program designed to enhance socially acceptable skills allowing the maintenance and/or increase of the individuals’ level of independence in the areas of self-care, activities of daily living, and community integration.
Review on a monthly basis all Behavior Support Program data, including individual clinical goals and objectives, to ensure that supports meet an overall effectiveness rating of 80% or better.
Conduct time-sample observations in all areas to determine the rate of staff and individual served interaction/engagement, and the use of incidental teaching opportunities. Share feedback with Program Coordinators and Director of Support Services.
Assist in the development and implementation of the IP process with each individual served regarding the Behavior Support Plan and clinical goals and objectives. Ensure that appropriate treatment procedures are being conducted.
Assist in ensuring the preservation of the rights of each individual served and his/her family by maintaining confidentiality, employing the philosophy of least restrictive procedures (using restrictive procedures only when specified by treatment needs) and following the ethical standards of Journey Found.
Attend and present all required information and data to the CT Department of Developmental Disabilities Program Review Committee/Human Rights Committee as required and respond to any and all concerns that arise.
Develop and coordinate training sessions with the Director of Clinical Services focused on improving the clinical skills of the Program Coordinators and other staff.
Establish effective systems for ensuring reliable data documentation and collection at each program.
Collate all behavior programming data and pertinent information providing biannual clinical reports on individuals served progress.
Participate in clinical aspects of new program implementation and development.
Participate in applied research projects as assigned.
Attend regularly scheduled clinical and programmatic staff meetings.
Maintain current mandatory agency trainings.
Demonstrate an understanding of the philosophy and mission of Journey Found.
Demonstrate competence and technical skills in positive behavior supports, applied behavior analysis and person-centered planning.
Meet monthly, or as deemed necessary, with Director of Clinical Services.
Preserve the rights of all individuals served and their families by maintaining confidentiality as delineated in DDS licensing regulations, Journey Found policies and procedures and in accordance with HIPAA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions of this position require the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to a wide variety of audiences. Computer literacy is required. The ability to move independently through a wide range of environments, of which may not be wheelchair accessible, is required. The ability to physically participate in crisis prevention/intervention training is required. The ability to implement trained procedures is required. The ability to lift inanimate objects such as files and records is needed as well as the ability to lift individuals served. As a Journey Found employee you agree to all safety practices. Independent transportation to locations that may not be served by public transportation in and out of the administrative/clinical setting is required. There are on-call responsibilities as well as some occasional telephone or on site response in emergency situations. The work schedule will be fixed yet reflect the need of the program whenever necessary. There will be times when training or other special needs will occur outside of the fixed schedule. This will be jointly agreed upon by the employee and his/her supervisor. Weekend and/or holiday duties may be required within the fixed schedule. This position requires a valid driver’s license for possible transportation of individuals served.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The ability to lift objects, such as boxes etc. up to 50 lbs. is needed. The ability to move independently throughout a wide range of environments, some of which may not be wheelchair or otherwise handicapped accessible, is required. Independent transportation to locations that may not be served by public transportation may be necessary. Journey Found will make reasonable accommodations, whenever possible, when needed and/or requested by employees. Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
Clinical Experience in DDS field Required
BCBA Preferred
MA in related field
Experience in Creation and Implementation of Behavior Support Plans
ABA Experience
Computer Skills w/fluency in Word, Excel & Outlook
Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills
