The Landscaping Technician III assists in managing the horticultural requirements of the Medxcel faciliites. This position oversees and performs a variety of landscape activities, such as planting, weeding, digging, spreading topsoil and other materials, general lawn maintenance, and seasonal lawn preparation. This position serves in a lead role, leading 4 – 8 associates, possibly more seasonal associates as needed. The Landscaping Technician III operates a variety of equipment and has a working knowledge of horticultural practices, woody and perennial plants cultural requirements and pest management.
The Landscape Technician III should possess a basic understanding of the maintenance requirements of all Medxcel facilities hardscape elements including a basic understanding of irrigation principles, and will assist Facilities Maintenance staff on projects as assigned.
This position will be located at St. Vincent - Indianapolis, IN.

Responsibilities
Administrative & Training
Ensures all work is completed in adherence to safety policies and guidelines. Assists with weekly safety training and safety inspections on job sites.
Assists with maintaining proper inventory of materials, equipment and other supplies are on hand to complete production activities.
Provides additional support and training to Landscaping Technicians as needed.
General Landscaping
Works with a crew of 4 – 8 employees and oversees the daily work performed.
Performs a wide variety of horticultural tasks to ensure an attractive landscape and an optimal level of plant health, including weed control, certain perennial cultural practices, pruning, pest treatments, and other routine lawn care activities.
Operates a variety of mechanical equipment including, but not limited to mowers, back hoes, bobcats, dingos, tillers, sod cutters, weed eaters, plant augers, chain saws, and drills.
Performs planting and related activities.
Performs routine lawn maintenance including grass cutting, lawn edging, weed pulling, and other routine lawn-maintenance activities. Uses lawn mower and related equipment.
Provides seasonal lawn care, such as spring and fall clean-up.
Moves materials and equipment and performs related duties to assist in landscaping and hardscaping.
Digs holes and trenches and excavates for landscaping and hardscaping using picks and shovels or related equipment.
Hauls or spreads topsoil, gravel, sand, mulch, or related materials using wheelbarrows and rakes.
Hand-finishes grade, and apply seed, straw, or sod.
Maintains assigned equipment and notifies Landscaping Supervisor of needed repairs.
Responds politely to customer inquiries and projects a professional image.
Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned.
Loads equipment and materials on and off trucks and trailers.
Performs snow removal activities as assigned, such as shoveling, salting, etc…
Assist Facilities Maintenance staff on projects as assigned.
Chemical Treatments
Applies chemicals under the direction of a licensed chemical applicator.
Special Projects
Assist and participate in special projects as assigned.
Paints during the winter season.
Assists the Facilities Maintenance staff on projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or GED.
License/Certification:
Valid State Driver’s License and insurable with company’s agent.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred
Pesticide Certification preffered
Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in landscaping or horticultural work.
Previous experience in a health care setting preffered
Competencies:
Ability to train new associates and educate them on processes, systems and equipment.
Be able to read and write in English language.
Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Landscaping leader and local Facilities Leader.
Ability to operate a truck and trailer combination proficiently.
Strong oral communication skills, job planning skills, and mechanical aptitude are preferred.
Has a working knowledge of standard horticultural practices.
