CHRIS 180 services include counseling for the community at large; school-based mental health counseling; comprehensive wraparound services; homes for abused, neglected foster children with emotional and behavioral problems who are in state custody and for unaccompanied children in federal foster care; supportive housing for single and parenting young people, ages 17 – 24 who are homeless or aging out of foster care; in-home services and community programs that strengthen families; outreach, drop-in and community housing for older teens, young adults and families with children experiencing homelessness; services in community centers and partnerships with afterschool providers; an adoption program for children in foster care; teen and gun violence reduction programming; and, training for professionals, human service workers, educators, volunteers, individuals who work within the community, in hospitals, other organizations and with children, youth, adults, and families. Position Summary
The Data Specialist reports to the SAMHSA Project Director and provides regular data entry, data management, and analytical support to a variety of programs.
Role and Responsibilities
• Supports the data management needs of multiple SAMSHA grants, plus other organizational projects as needed.
• Works with internal and external stakeholders to support data reporting requirements of the grants and programs.
• Identifies the need for, and creates, manual data tracking mechanisms, as necessary. Creates and monitors process flows. Supports ongoing manual data tracking systems until they are no longer needed.
• Monitors and maintains client-level data entry needs to SAMSHA’s Performance Accountability and Reporting System (SPARS) and electronic medical records (EHRs).
• Exports and extracts data from EHRs, health information exchanges (HIEs), databases/spreadsheets, utilization files, etc. to meet data requirements.
• Reformats data files and combines data from disparate systems for aggregate analysis.
• Provides timely and accurate analysis reports, both reoccurring and ad hoc, to support business needs.
• Ensures accuracy of data reporting and works to resolve data errors.
• Assists in writing policies, corrective action plans, and compliance reports
• Performs other duties as assigned.
**This is a grant-funded position; ending 9/30/2026 At the conclusion of the grants, the candidate may seek other employment opportunities at CHRIS 180.**
Qualifications/Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university OR Associates degree in a related field from an accredited college or university with at least two years of related experience OR High school diploma or GED with at least four years of related experience
- Must be detail oriented and possess advanced computer skills.
- Intermediate Excel skills
- Ability to multi-task and balance competing deadlines in a complex organizational environment.
- Ability to be successful in a remote-based position.
- Ability to travel within the metro-Atlanta area up to 20% of the time.
- Ability to collaborate with others in a team environment and effectively work independently.
- Excellent written communication, oral communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong data management and software skills.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Experience in a healthcare or behavioral healthcare environment
- Experience with SAMSHA’s Performance Accountability and Reporting System (SPARS)

Schedule
This position works an average of 80 hours bi-weekly. The work schedule requires flexibility to meet the needs of the program and availability on an emergency or project basis. Primary hours are Monday – Friday between 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Due to schedule or other operations necessities, the organization may transfer an employee to another location or shift, either on a temporary or permanent basis as this position is an employee of CHRIS 180, not the program.
