This position is responsible for the inspection, preventive maintenance and repair of revenue and non-revenue equipment required for the reliable operation of City of Racine buses. It is also responsible for repairs to buildings and ancillary facilities which are a part of City of Racine Transit.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs preventive maintenance, general and major overhaul on transit vehicles, their components and systems to include engines, transmissions, cooling, electrical, air, HVAC, steering and suspension, brakes, and paint and body.
Makes repairs to non-revenue vehicles and shop equipment.
Performs building and ground’s maintenance functions.
Operates shop equipment such as brake lathe, hoist, fork lift and sweeper.
Performs welding and braising operations.
Documents all work performed and parts used on the appropriate forms.
Makes service calls and repairs to disabled vehicles away from the garage.
Fuels and cleans buses as may be required.
Keeps work area and shop clean and well organized.
Observes all safety and environmental rules and regulations.
Evening and weekend work required.
Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Coordinator
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must be able to work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The qualified applicant will possess mechanical certification from an accredited vocational school. A minimum of one year shop experience, or 3-5 years of hands-on experience in the repair of diesel/gasoline engines and/or transit buses without the vocational degree. Must have tools of the trade and a valid CDL or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability to take direction and work cooperatively in a shop setting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Good work record. This is a safety sensitive position subject to physicals/D&A testing per DOT/FTA regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION:
Ability to safely lift 45lbs at least four times in an eight hour shift. Must also be capable of continuous bending and reaching.
