Amalgamated Bank of Chicago is hiring a Benefits Manager. This position will manage all aspects of benefits
administration as well as provide analytical and technical support in the delivery of the benefits programs. The
qualified candidate will enroll, manage, and maintain employee healthcare plans, 401k plans, and defined benefit
plans, in addition to providing annual census data for insurance carriers, vendors, and senior management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensuring that the organization's benefit programs will be effective in attracting, retaining, and motivating
employees.
• Supervises administration of all benefit programs. Oversees annual renewal process and coordinates with
outside vendors.
• Ensure the successful design and implementation of the annual Open Enrollment process for active
employees, including rates, communications, materials, system changes, etc. Conduct post-enrollment
review and ensure delivery of carrier census data by assigned deadlines, as required.
• Processes all benefits, and manages the benefits accounting process to ensure accurate deductions, timely
remittance of vendor payments and required reporting.
• Administers 401(k) plans and pension plans. Complies pension calculations for retirees and set up benefit
payments with trust department. Complies annual census data for actuary.
• Participates in union contract negotiations and prepares reports as needed
• Ensure that our benefits program complies with all relevant regulations, including ERISA, COBRA, ACA, and
HIPAA
• Tracking and coordination of all Leaves of Absences (FMLA, ADA, Parental etc.)
• Participates on employee benefits committee.
• Serves as primary contact for employees regarding benefit-related inquiries
• Maintain governmental filing related to benefit files.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
• Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of experience in benefits and compensation program development and
management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements
(i.e., ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, IRS, ADA, Section 125 regulations, 5500, Health Care Reform,
Workers Compensation, Medicare, Social Security, DOL, FLSA)
• Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) Certification preferred
• Clear, precise, and effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills
• Ability to deal with benefits/compensation matters in a confidential, objective, and professional manner.
• Results driven with ability to operate independently and proactively
• Proven ability to establish rapport and work across all levels of organization and cultivate relationships to
include HR Business Partners, Legal, and Finance.
• Ability to drive multiple projects simultaneously with regularly adjusting priorities
• Proven analytic and business skills
