To continue our standard of excellence, Piedmont is seeking a motivated, reliable leader to join our team as a Payroll Manager in our Payroll Department. The primary responsibility of the position is the coordination and management of the entire payroll function. The Payroll Manager is responsible for setting clear expectations and providing support to direct reports to achieve goals related to proactive management. This role will also participate in special projects. The successful candidate will have 8-10 years of end-to-end multi-state payroll processing experience with a medium to large-size company and 3-5 years of management experience. This position will report to the Director, Payroll.
Essential Duties:
Assist with administering payrolls, month-end consolidation, and processing support as required
Audit payrolls, ensuring compliance and internal reporting requirements
Calculation and payment of termination payments
Payment and reconciliation of bonus payments
Calculation, payment, and reconciliation of payroll tax and 941s
Liaising with management and staff regarding pay inquiries
Preparation of ad hoc reports as required
Workers’ compensation coordination
Drive a process mindset to ensure proper strategic alignment, prioritization, standardization, and impact of projects and initiatives
Work closely with functional areas on project priorities, plans, and reporting while understanding project risks and status
Ensure cross-team involvement occurs as needed
Identify resource constraints and potential project delays in a timely manner to operate proactively and ensure expectations are met
Job Qualifications and Competencies:
Eight (8) years of end-to-end multi-state payroll processing experience in a medium or large size company
Comprehensive knowledge of payroll systems
Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and manage teams
Possess a clear understanding of payroll tax and garnishment laws and legislation
Excellent attention to detail
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Ability to create, review, and construct policies and procedures
Ability to interpret relevant awards and legislation
Business process improvement experience
Strong strategic planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Customer focus
Excellent verbal and communication skills
Workday Human Resources Information System (HRIS) experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Possess a Certified Payroll Professional Certificate (CPP) and three (3) years of end-to-end multi-State payroll processing experience in a medium or large size company
Previous experience in a busy office environment
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
Work Environment:
Standard office environment, use of telephones, computers, and other office equipment
Some travel may be required
Physical Requirements:
Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
Salary Range:
$85,000 - $95,000
