Dental Hygienist

Position Summary: In accordance with the plans and policies of Tampa Family Health Center, Inc. the Dental Hygienist works together with the dentist to meet the oral health needs of the patient. Performs all duties according to Florida statute as it pertains to dental hygiene.
Essential Functions:
- Patient screening procedures; such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting and taking blood pressure and pulse
- Taking and dental radiographs (x-rays)
- Removing calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth
- Applying preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants and fluorides)
- Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health;
(e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling) - Counseling patients about good nutrition and its impact on oral health
- making impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs)
- Performing documentation and office management activities
- Possesses an ability and willingness to learn.
- Able to establish and maintain effective communication with patients and coworkers. Able to communicate in English with the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Maintain effective and positive working relationships with patients and staff with the ability to motivate patients.
- Helps to identify need for supplies, materials, equipment. Helps with ordering process of dental supplies.
- Helps to coordinate maintenance and equipment service requests from dental service company
General Duties:
- This position requires traveling to cover different locations when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by CDO or Director of Dental Operations
Education, Certification Training and License:
- Current Florida Dental Hygiene License
- Maintain a current CPR certification.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Previous dental hygiene experience desired, but not required
