Job Summary:
The Quality Engineer in the Glass Industry is responsible for ensuring that all glass products meet the highest standards of quality and safety. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining quality control systems and procedures, conducting inspections and tests, and working closely with production teams to identify and resolve quality issues. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quality engineering, a deep understanding of glass manufacturing processes, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Control and Assurance:
- Develop and implement quality control procedures and standards for glass production, including raw material inspection, in-process quality checks, and final product testing.
- Conduct regular inspections and tests on glass products to ensure they meet customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze test data and reports to identify trends, deviations, and potential quality issues.
- Responsible for troubleshooting root cause analysis, SPC data analysis, implementation and maintaining up to date documentation related to APQP, PFMEA, DFMEA, and Control Plans.
Process Improvement:
- Work with production teams to identify root causes of quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Lead and conduct the improvement of capacity studies and gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R) analysis.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality, reducing defects, and optimizing manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to develop and validate new processes and products.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of quality control activities, including inspection reports, test results, and non-conformance reports.
- Prepare detailed quality reports and present findings to management, production teams, and customers as needed.
- Ensure all quality documentation complies with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Supplier Quality Management:
- Evaluate and qualify suppliers based on their ability to meet quality standards for raw materials and components.
- Conduct supplier audits and work with suppliers to resolve quality issues and improve product quality.
- Monitor supplier performance and implement quality improvement plans as needed.
- Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, monthly/annual reports depicting the Key Performance Indicators and progress toward targets. Submit detailed reports to appropriate leadership team personnel.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, such as ISO 9001, and regulatory requirements related to glass manufacturing.
- Participate in internal and external quality audits and implement corrective actions to address audit findings.
- Promote a culture of quality and safety within the organization, ensuring that all employees are trained in quality control procedures and safety protocols.
Customer Support:
- Address customer complaints related to product quality and work with the production and sales teams to resolve issues.
- Provide technical support to customers regarding product specifications, quality standards, and testing procedures.
- Collaborate with customers to understand their quality requirements and ensure products meet their expectations.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in quality engineering within the manufacturing industry, preferably in glass or related sectors.
- Experience with quality management systems (QMS) and tools such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Hands on approach to problem solving and analysis
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement effective solutions.
- Proficiency in quality control tools and software, including statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab) SAP and ERP systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality and safety.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of glass manufacturing processes, including glass cutting, tempering, coating, and assembly, a plus.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and certifications (e.g., ISO 9001, ASTM standards for glass).
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification in quality management (e.g., Certified Quality Engineer - CQE) is a plus.
